Summer Color Schemes!

12 May

Red

Some people think that red is more appropriate for winter and fall weddings, and ya, maybe it fall and winter themes would be the first to come to mind, but it certainly doesn’t have to be that way. Using red in the right proportion to other colors quickly and easily turns red into the perfect summer wedding color. Think of all the Summer flowers that grow very red in the Texas Hill Country! GeorgeTown Texas has named it self the Poppy Capital of Texas during the Late Spring an Early Summer there are red patches every where you look along the side of the road.

Great summer wedding color combinations for red include champagne, pink and yellow.

Lavender

Lavender works so well for summer weddings because it conjures up images of Mediterranean Europe and gentle afternoons in the park. One of favorite themes for a summer wedding is, in fact lavender! With lavender spilling into favors (lavender tea or lavender plants), and even your menu (lavender shorbet or lavender pork) it’s a uniquely beautiful start to a summer wedding theme. A great Venue to think about along with a Mediterranean Theme is the Villa Antonia, located just outside of Austin on Lake Travis with a Beautiful Tuscan feel. Also think of locations like the Mandolla Winery or Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center!

Great color combos for lavender include terra cotta, blues, greens and bright pink or yellow.

Yellow is a cheery color, so if you’re after a bright cheery wedding yellow is a really simple and obvious choice. Images of sexy silk dresses and and minimal decor come to mind for a sleek but cheery wedding.

Summer Wedding Ideas!

11 May

May through August is the number one most popular time of year to get married, and for good reason too. Summer weddings are full of sunshine and warmth, ( and HEAT!!! in the Austin Area) and allow you to get married outside in good (Hot) weather. Take full advantage of the season and all it has to offer you when planning your summer wedding. Here are some ideas of place and things to do to help beat the heat in the Texas hill country.

When thinking about venues the City of Austin has some wonderful park locations that also offer remodeled home and buildings on site that allow for a cool hide away from the texas heat! One of my favorites is Mayfield park and Water Gardens,  this public park is availible for rental for a nominal fee and features water gardens, live peacocks, and a historic home on site which makes for a beautiful wedding. Here is a picture of a wedding we have done there.

Another nice location for a Summer Wedding where you can stay cool but still enjoy all the beauty of the Texas Hill Country is “The Terrace Club of Jack Rabbit Ridge”. With stunning views of the Texas Hill Country located in Dripping Springs just minutes from Austin this a perfect venue for your summer wedding!

For all the men in a summer wedding bridal party, a classic navy blazer with khaki slacks are perfect. For a more formal affair, perhaps consider morning suits or tuxedos depending on whether the affair will take place during the day or evening. A white dinner jacket is fabulous too and perhaps even a bit more comfortable than a tuxedo. Almost anything goes when it comes to proper summer wedding attire.  Another popular alternative for your Summer wedding in Texas is a nice linen suit or light pants with a simple button up, sometimes it is better to avoid ties and jackets in the summer heat.

Summer wedding decorations should reflect the joy and bounty of the season. Use fresh fruits and vegetables to decorate your reception area. Consider clementines and cumquats in flower arrangements and fill the room with bright and cheery blooms like roses, sunflowers, red and yellow calla lilies, dahlias, mums and zinnias (just to name a few). You can also create an airy summer look with mostly white and light colored flowers such as roses, stephanotis, white phlox, hydrangea, white calla lilies, snowball mums and Shasta daisies.

For summer wedding tables, consider pairing your favorite flowers with seasonal fruits. Place lemons and limes in tall, clear topiaries and top with a loose floral arrangement. You can also create a lush garden look by planting bright pink hydrangeas in antique urns to flank your outside aisle. (You can plant them afterwards in your own garden.) Select bouquets for the bridesmaids that when placed all together, resemble the horizon at sunset.

Fill your summer wedding menu with the bounty of the season by serving fresh fruits such as watermelon and berries. Granitas and sorbets are refreshing desserts after a summer wedding fare of fresh seafood or even traditional barbecue for a more casual affair. Another Popular Texas wedding tradition is the mexican auqua fresca, here is a simple recipe.

Watermelon Agua Fresca Recipe Preparation: 10 mts, chilling time Serves 4-5 persons

  •  Ingredients:  2 cups cubed and de-seeded chilled watermelon (or any of your favorite fruit, peaches and strawberries work well)
  • 1/2 cup chilled water
  • 1 1/2 tbsp sugar (adjust according to the sweetness of watermelon)
  • 1-2 tbsp lemon juice
  • mint leaves for garnish (optional)
  • 1 Blend the above ingredients for 8-10 secs. If you want a smooth drink, strain. Garnish with mint leaves and serve chilled.

I personaly like to serve theses in big glass jars which is the more traditional way to serve them here is an example of  different flavors in the beautiful colors of the season!

Summer wedding favors might include fruits of the season, such as pears or peaches. Small pots of flowers and seeds as well as beautiful wooden fans or crystal oysters with a pearl make the perfect wedding favors.

Make your summer wedding a joyous celebration under the sun, wherever it may shine for you and your spouse-to-be on this your most special day of days.
